Check out the 2023-2024 LEAP score results for Caddo and Bossier
The Louisiana Department of Education released the Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (LEAP) results for the 2023-2024 school year on July 24.
According to the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE), testing data proved that students grade 3-8 improved by one point in English Language Arts (ELA).
“The latest LEAP data released today is encouraging, with overall performance holding steady in line with recent achievement gains. With improvement confirmed in early grades, Louisiana’s emphasis on literacy initiatives and fundamental skills development is beginning to bear fruit,” said Ronnie Morris, BESE President.

Caddo School District
“We are incredibly proud of the sustained growth our students have continued to achieve as highlighted in today’s data release,” said Interim Superintendent Leisa G. Woolfolk.
According to Caddo School District, the LEAP score results showed that the district sustained a five percent growth across all subjects and grade levels between 2021 and 2024.
“The 5 percent increase in student proficiency across all subjects and grade levels between 2021 and 2024 is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students, teachers, and staff,” said Wooldfolk. “Our focus on foundational literacy and numeracy is clearly paying off, especially for our youngest learners, with an impressive 8 percent increase in K-3 students reading on grade level this past year.”
Districtwide, 20 schools increased the percentage of students scoring mastery and above across all tested subjects since last year. Additionally, students across all tested grades increased their proficiency in science by one point.
Caddo Middle Magnet and South Highlands Elementary Magnet were recognized as the top achieving schools in north Louisiana on this year’s LEAP assessments.
Chief Academic Officer Keith Burton said Caddo’s efforts to ensure students are taught by well trained educators using top-tier curricula and resources is making a difference in the lives of students across Caddo Parish.
“These results show our commitment to quality resources, making the most of our instructional minutes and providing ongoing teacher coaching and development to drive student achievement is making a difference in the lives of thousands of students,” said Burton. “Our strategic focus on foundational literacy and numeracy translates to students not only meeting proficiency goals but being positioned to accomplish their future goals and aspirations.”

Bossier School District
“We want to commend our teachers and students for putting in the hard work and celebrate their success,” said Jason Rowland, Bossier Schools Superintendent. “Success is not easy, but it is worth the effort that goes into it.”
According to Bossier School District, students in grades 3, 5, 6 and 7 all increased percent proficiency in ELA and there were gains as well in average scale scores for those same grades and English II in high school.
Additionally, 16 Bossier schools showed growth in the percentage of students earning Mastery or Advanced on the LEAP.
The largest gains in ELA proficiency were Haughton Middle with a 10-percent gain and Stockwell Place Elementary with an eight-percent gain. Platt Elementary and Benton Middle posted a six-percent increase; and Greenacres, Sun City and Elm Grove Elementary each experienced a five-percent growth in proficiency. Other schools showing ELA increases include Apollo Elementary, Benton High, Benton Intermediate, Bossier High, Elm Grove Middle, Haughton Elementary, R.V. Kerr Elementary, Plantation Park Elementary and Rusheon Middle.
“We are thrilled with the growth seen, we are not fully satisfied with our outcomes,” said Rowland. “Bossier Schools will be introducing additional new curriculum in 2024-2025 to include ELA and math at the middle school level, as well as Algebra I and social studies, that will enable our district to build on its successes and continue to accelerate learning.”
