PHOTOS: Arts and entertainment take centre stage at Chautauqua

Family and friends gathered in downtown Fernie to enjoy Chautauqua, held Sept. 8 and 9.

Children took part in a variety of games, including sack and egg and spoon races. History enthusiasts headed over to the Senior’s Centre to learn about the history of Fernie’s red-light district and Victorian dress.

Fernie Visual Artist Guild and Fernie Quilt Guild displayed quilting, weaving and painting from local artists. Musical entertainment was provided by The Relief Committee, The Audielles, Shelley Lynch and Scarlett Butler.

Chautauqua is historic tradition in Fernie that dates back to 1917. The event brought music, art and culture to small rural communities at a time when exposure to creative pursuits was limited.
