Importance of Learnerships
Learnerships are defined as the process of equipping students with required practical skills and knowledge in their field of work by exposing them to the workplace and equipment they have been dealing with theoretically so as to ensure that they are trained practically. Learnership programmes are aimed at exposing students to more experience about their course and therefore helping them to become aware of what is needed from them when they get employed in future. Since students from different learning institutions but taking the same courses get to interact with the company during learnerships, they sharpen their social life skills by helping each other and doing duties together thus helping to grow confidence in what they do.
It is based on a binding agreement between the learner, employer and training provider to spell out their duties to ensure quality of the training and protect interests of everyone involved in the programme. Learnership leads to acquisition of training skills which can help them perform effectively at their work place since the practical exposure is easy to remember as compared to theoretical knowledge. When a learner successfully completes a learnership programme, they are fully equipped to be productive at their fields when they encounter problems that require the knowledge they had acquired earlier on in their life. After a learnership programme and later on completion of the course being taken by the student, he/she is eligible for further studies but within the same field of specialization.
Another impact of the programme on the student is that they become responsible employees later on and they can work under minimal supervision because the employer is confident in their ability to apply the practical skills they acquired during the programme. The the programme gives a person skills required in job market, therefore, providing improved access to income generation and a better personal lifestyle. It is also necessary for a student to undergo the learnership programme because they learn to be committed to their work by allowing them to personally interact with problems and try to solve them either alone or under supervision of an instructor and therefore they can be very valuable to a business when they apply the same skills at the job place. Due to acquisition of knowledge and skills by the employees and its application in the workplace, the company providing the learnership program will be raising the skills level of employees and at the same time improving work performance. A company can provide a chance for some of the most productive learners to achieve personal development and that of the company.
